Hadley's Story:
Hadley’s story blends the Bohemian romance of Paris’ Left Bank and the hardship of being a struggling writer. The many juxtapositions and contrasts of her life in Paris during the 1920s as the wife of Ernest Hemingway are the inspiration for this kimono. Living among many other artists and writers, Hadley had a sensual and elegant style that was also comfortable and practical. Whether spending a rainy afternoon in their apartment, or congregating with other expats at the corner bistro, she was always memorable. Fact or fiction, her life was an open book.
This gorgeous swing jacket kimono is our interpretation of the rich textures and dramatic contrasts of what Hadley’s life must have been like. This handmade, one-of-a-kind piece features repurposed fabrics, including a vintage Japanese print paired with a vintage golden green velvet fabric, that drapes beautifully. Its deep side splits and patch pockets make it so wearable, and its swing style is surprisingly flattering. Pair it with separates and dress it up or down. You’ll love the luxurious feel and flattering silhouette, and find yourself wearing it whenever you want to feel extra special.
