Merrill lives in a lovely condominium in an upscale part of town, where she can watch the cars go by and people walking their dogs, all coming and going in their daily errands and routines. She likes to be around the energy of it all. The boutiques and cafes, parks and galleries, manicured landscaping and the sound of a piano playing somewhere. It takes her back to her days as a young girl in Paris, where she fell in love with the energy of a city.
Seeing people out and about living their lives somehow makes her feel more alive, herself. She is not an old woman. She is just in between chapters. Downsizing and starting over. Again. Just yesterday she hired an interior designer to help her furnish her new condo, creating a modern but comfortable environment with luxurious details. She’ll be building around some of her favorite pieces of furniture and art that she chose to keep.
Starting over is something she’s perfected over the years, and has always been overwhelming and exciting at the same time. Being able to reinvent herself is actually an adventure of self discovery.
She pours herself a cup of coffee and walks out onto her balcony, wearing her favorite kimono over her leggings and t-shirt. It always makes her feel elegant and pulled together. Sitting down in her cushion-covered outdoor rattan chair, she takes in the lovely morning. Her newly planted flowers are nodding their approval. “Today is going to be a fabulous day,” Merrill says to herself as she takes a sip of the aromatic French Roast, and savors this glamorous moment.
