Rory is going though old photographs, trying to decide what to keep and what she really needs to give up. It’s not an easy task, because there are so many stories that come flooding back with each image. “Those early years with the kids were so hectic,” she thinks. “But so precious, too. It seems like only yesterday.” Other years she can skim over, but there were definitely some wonderful times.
Looking at the photos of herself as a young mother she remembers feeing so overwhelmed and exhausted. “If only I could have known how beautiful I was then,” she thought. “If only I could have known then how wonderful our life as a family would turn out. I would have worried a lot less.” Deciding this train of thought was a learning moment, she quickly moved on to the next album, moving more quickly through her predetermined task for the day.
After a long walk around the neighborhood, and a quick shower, Rory slips into her long luxurious kimono, a treat she has given herself for her birthday. “This is my reward,” she smiles, as she pours herself a glass of wine and picks up a novel she’s been wanting to read for a while. “This is the happiest I’ve even been,” she realizes, and turns to Chapter One.
