Arden's story:
Arden has always loved strong contrasts of darkness and light; the surprisingly pleasing aesthetic of unexpected juxtapositions. Like this amazing kimono she’s wearing. Handcrafted from a combination of curated fabrics, it is made of layers of stories, and has become her signature piece.
Its textures and contrasts reminds her of something she saw one brisk Spring afternoon while walking around the brick streets of Amsterdam. As she was enjoying the architectural details of the tall narrow storefronts facing the canals she noticed two adjacent buildings, each with its large front window open to the street.
The first open window framed an empty white room with a large fireplace. With slow, dance-like movements, two men clad in white coveralls holding long handled paint rollers were painting the entire room white, as if erasing layers of history. The afternoon light poured into the room, illuminating the white crown moldings and detailed woodwork, revealing a blank canvas for whatever was ahead.
Arden then noticed the second building where two young Asian girls dressed in black lacy lingerie were posing in the open window, their pale skin against a totally black room. The fireplace and woodwork, the walls, the ceiling —-everything was black. Blocking out all memory of anything that ever happened there. The only thing she could see was white porcelain skin.
To this day, the image of those two “if-these-walls-could-talk” vignettes has stood out in Arden’s memory as one of the most thought-provoking works of art she’s ever experienced. She’s still trying to figure out what it means. In the meantime, it somehow makes her black and white kimono all the more interesting.

This tunic-length kimono is the most versatile length in our collection, falling just above the knee. Wide sleeves fall between the elbow and wrist. Fully lined, with deep side slits and generous front pockets. A sleek, flattering silhouette that moves with you and wraps you in elegant ease.
The separate sash/belt can be worn inside or outside the garment. Or, wear it loosely around the back and tuck the untied ends in the front pockets. Or, remove the belt entirely and wear the garment open so it can move freely.
